In de Krant!!

Nou daar stonden we dan, Jannette en ik, in de krant met een foto!

Het was een interessante ochtend toen de journalist van het noord hollands dagblad, afdeling Den Helder, aan boord van de Tecla was. Als je op de foto klikt wordt hij groter.

There we where, Jannette and me in the newspaper with our picture!!

Ofcourse the text is Dutch, giving a summery of our conversation is a bit lame.. So I'll discribe the morning with the journalist and forget all the silly things we said and he wrote down..

It was cold on board, we had run out of petrole so the heating shut down. We let the gas stove burn to heat the living and told the journalist to keep his jacket on..! We started talking about the ship, why we bought it and what our intentions where. So Jannette and I, told him about our passion for traditional sailingvessels. We explained the way we work together and that we hope to sail a lot of races this year.

We talkes about the history of the family. How Jan and Jannette had met and where we lived before Jan and Jannette started sailing with the Aagtje.

And ofcourse we talked about the perfect place we had found in Den Helder to do the work we wanted to do and all the facilities that it offers!

Well thats about all. It was an interesting morning, I must say!

A Dolphin partytrip

At eleven O´clock this morning we left San Sebastian de La Gomera drenched by sun and wind. A strong breeze (6 bf) from the north, so two reefs. 6-7 knots close haul with Tenerife on the horizon.
5 miles out, at the height of Los Gigantos we came into a calm, so drifted for a while. After waiting 10 minutes, they suddenly appearded, first one, then two and in the end a whole school of bottle nose dolphins, jumping in front of the bow. My opinion is that it was a celebration for us, today exactly one year we are the proud owners of the Tecla. Memorable!

The dolphins stay, but we do not, we're grabbing every breeze. So we tack and look for the wind, which we find very quickly. This time we go even faster, 8,5-9 knots wind from the side.
With two tacks we sail into the harbor of San Sebastian. I see a proud grin on the faces of the crew. I see happy guests. Today we have a party. Tonight we have feast. A super Canarian dinner on board as an end for this trip. Tomorrow we sail on with the Tecla.

Een dolfijnen feesttocht

Om elf uur zijn wij uit San Sebastian de La Gomera vertrokken. Zon en wind overgoten. Een stevige 6 uit het noorden, dus dubbel rif. 6-7 knopen aan de wind richting Tenerife.
5 mijl uit de kust ter hoogte van Los Gigantos was het opeens windstil, dus drijven. 10 minuten wachten en daar komen ze, eerst eentje, dan twee en uiteindelijk een hele school bottlenoses, springend voor de kop. Naar mijn mening een dans voor ons, precies één jaar zijn wij nu de trotse eigenaren van de Tecla. Gedenkwaardig!

De dolfijnen blijven, maar wij blijven niet langer slingeren in de golven. Overstag en de wind weer opzoeken. Die is snel gevonden. Nu gaat het nog harder 8,5-9 knopen, halve wind.
Met twee slagen de haven van San Sebastian binnengekruist en zeilopdoeken. Ik zie een voldane grijns op de gezichten van de bemanning. Ik zie zeer tevreden passagiers. Vandaag is het feest. Vanavond aan boord een super Canarische maaltijd als afsluiting van deze reis en morgen zeilen wij weer verder met de Tecla.
