Tecla Crew in Irish magazin!

In August we gave an interview to Wendy Scott, from Ireland. She got our name from Hendrik the Captain of the Gallant and wanted to know what we are all about. In this link to their website you can read all about it!!

Afgelopen augustus hebben wij een interview afgegeven aan Wendy Scott uit Ierland. Zij had onze naam gekregen van Hendrik de kapitein van de Gallant en ze wilde weten wat wij doen en wie wij zijn. Via deze link kun je er alles over lezen, is wel alleen in het Engels.

getting ready for the races!

The Tecla is still moored alongside the dockyard in Benicarlo. We are working hard on getting the ship ready for her annual check. And of course to get a fresh paint job on her.

Last year we crossed the ocean, we even won the Trans Atlantic Challenge, and this year we are out to discover more!! And we have new sails coming up! On the docks we will clean the hull so we no more Bermudan seaweed clinging on. And loads of new countries to visit, so nothing can stop us! The race will be on!!

The sails are made by Arjen Kooij, the cousin of Jan. They are specially designed for the Tecla and more so to race!! On our blog we have already shown a few pictures of the sail when Gijs and Arjen where still working on them. They are ready now, and as soon as they are on board (after we have docked) we will post some more pictures.

Tecla in Binicarlo

We hebben de La Palma weer verlaten en zijn onderweg naar Benicarlo, Spanje. Daar zullen we begin maart de werf op gaan. De twee maanden op La Palma waren heerlijk. Ondanks de kerst storm, hebben we al een aardig begin gemaakt met het schilderen. Nu valt het weer dan ook een beetje tegen. We hebben onze korte broeken weer in de kast liggen en de zeilpakken weer aan. Bij vertrek hadden we een zuid oostelijk windje en konden dus mooi zeilen, nu is de wind oost en hebben we nog steeds zeil maar ook motor bij ter ondersteuning. Om ons heen zijn veel donder buien, af en toe regen, maar ook opklaringen, waar de jas weer even uit kan. De eerste groepen dolfijnen en Jan van Genten hebben ons al begroet, ook hebben we een oranje schildpad gezien, zich warmend in het zonnetje. De nachten zijn helder, net na een nieuwe maan, Orion begeleid ons weer, maar nu startend van af stuurboord. Het is goed om weer op het water te zijn.


We left La Palma again and are on our way to Benicarlo, Spain. There we will go to set the Tecla dry, in early march. The two month on La Palma where wonderful. The Christmas storm kept us from painting, but still we did already a good part of painting. At the moment, the weather is a bit disappointing. Our shorts are in the wardrobe again, now we have to wear our oil goods. As we left, there was a south easterly wind, so that was a nice sail, at the moment the wind is east,so we started the engine to help the sailing a bit. Around us, is a lot of thunder, some times rain, but also blue sky's, so we can take off our jackets. The first group of dolphins and gannets already said hello, also we saw an orange turtle, warming in the sun! The nights are clear, just after a full moon, Orion leads us again, but now on starboard site. It is good to be on the sea again
