We are at anchor in a bay in Spain, near Vigo.
The town here is called Murow. It is surrounded by mountains and smells of fresh woods and blossoming trees!
We arrived here on 27th in the evening and decided to stay for at least one day and then set off for Vigo, some 40 miles down.
But this morning as we wanted to leave, the wind had turned to the south west and there was warning of big swell along the coast.
So we decided to stay for another day. So tonight around midnight we will leave the bay and go to Vigo hoping to arrive there in the morning.
Will let you know when we get there, and post some pictures.
To bad you can not photograph the smell of the air here, it is amazing!

We liggen voor anker in een baai in Spanje, vlakbij Vigo.
Het dorpje hier heet Murow. Het is omringt door bergen en het ruikt hier naar frisse bossen en in bloei staande bomen!
We zijn hier de 27ste s avonds aangekomen en hadden besloten hier een dag te blijven liggen voordat we naar Vigo door zouden gaan,
zo'n 40 mijl zuidelijker. Maar deze morgen was de wind gedraaid naar het zuid westen en was er waarschuwing voor hoge golven langs de kust,
dus hebben we besloten nog een dagje te blijven liggen. Vannacht gaan we verder.
De verwachting is dat de wind dan gedraaid is naar het noorden en af zal nemen.
We hopen morgen voor de middag in Vigo aan te komen.
We laten het weten als we een plekje hebben en ik zal proberen wat foto's online te zetten.
Jammer dat je de geur in deze baai niet kunt fotograferen, echt heerlijk!

Still on the Biscay, and not really sailing.
There where gale warnings for Sole and north of Pazenn (a little north of us)
so we did not want to risk loosing time and getting caught up by weather like that.
Still about 60 miles to the shore, we are not certain where we shall go first,
into the nearest bay for a night of peace and quiet or straight to Vigo, straight into the party...
Ah well, lots of time to think about that.
As I came on watch this night (it first stroke me that it was raining...)
I saw some white stripes along the ship, to smooth to be waves, and as I looked closer I saw that it where dolphins!
They lit up the water by moving the algae and so you could even follow them around in the dark!
They went from side to side, played in the propeller stream and jumped up and down for a while and then left.
That was a good way to start (apart from the rain) the watch!

We zitten nog steeds op de Biscay, en zeilen nog steeds niet echt.
Gister kregen we een storm waarschuwing voor de districten Sole en noord Pazenn binnen, net iets boven waar wij waren.
We wilden niet riskeren om ingehaald te worden door weer als dat en hebben besloten vooral gang te houden.
We moeten nog ongeveer 60 mijl tot de kust en zijn nog niet zeker over waar we eerst heen gaan.
Misschien eerst nog een rustige nacht voor anker, of meteen naar Vigo, naar het feest gedruis.
Maar ach, nog genoeg tijd om daarover na te denken.
Toen ik vannacht op wacht kwam (viel me eerst op dat het regende...) zag ik aan de lage zijde van het schip
witte strepen door het water lopen die te recht waren voor golven.
Toen ik iets beter keek bleken het dolfijnen te zijn!
Door hun beweging lichten de algen in het water op en kon je hen volgen terwijl zij van boord naar boord zwommen
en speelden in het schroefwater. Ze zijn een tijdje blijven spelen en gingen er toen vandoor,
dat was een leuke (af gezien van de regen) manier om de wacht te beginnen!

Bay Of biscay, lots to do about this part of the sea! And so as we almost turned the corner to the Biscay near Isle de Ouessant the wind suddenly picked up as to say, warning, you are entering the Biscay now! It became force 6 out of nothing and forced us to lower the main sail and set the forestaysail to be able to motorsail down. The ocean swell from the W/SW was about 2 meters and with the wind blowing from the NW waves picked up and formed into a small cross sea witch made it very unpleasant sleeping! But as we left the continental plain the waves got a bit more comfortable and we even hope to set some more sail in the morning. Will let you know as soon as we sail.


Bay of Biscay, er is al veel geschreven en gezegd over dit stukje zee. En toen wij de hoek van frankrijk om gingen bij Isle de Ouessant draaide de wind ineens en nam zij toe als om te zeggen, pas je vaart nu de Bay of Biscay op! De wind nam toe tot krachtje 6 uit het niets en dwong ons het grootzeil te laten zakken en de fok te zetten om te kunnen blijven motor zeilen. Met een oceaan swell van 2 meter uit het west/zuid westen en de wind uit het noord westen ontstond er al snel een onaangenaam zee-tje, niet lekker om bij te slapen. Maar na het verlaten van het continentaal plat werd dat al iets beter. De wind heeft aardig wat gedraaid, maar als het zo door gaat zetten wij morgen wat meer zeil en hopen wij in ieder geval nog 24 uur te zeilen! We laten het weten als dat lukt!

Finaly some wind and now it has left us again! Yesterday around dinnertime the wind increased to a force 3/4 from the South East, veering southerly. We set the main topsail and the jib and as the watch of Gijs and me started we also set the mizzen. With the tide we were doing almost 10 knots, very nice sailing!! But now and hour ago the wind died out and veered even further to the north, force 1.. So we have turned on the engine and hope we get some wind in the evening. Although it is a bit cloudy, the sun is still shining, so all is well on board!

Eindelijk hadden we wat wind en nu is hij weer weg! Gisterenavond rond etenstijd stak er een mooie bries, kracht 3/4 uit het zuid oosten op die langzaam zuid werd. We hebben groottopzeil en kluiver erbij gezet en tijdens Gijs en mijn wacht ook nog de bezaan. Voor de stroom weg liepen we een comfortabele 10 knopen! Maar nu is de wind weer weg en is hij gedraaid naar het noorden, kracht 1.. Dus nu loopt de motor weer en hopen we tegen de avond weer wat wind te hebben om het stuk over de biscay te zeilen! En ondanks dat het een beetje bewolkt is, schijnt de zon ook, dus alles is goed aan boord! Jet

43 hours ago we set off from IJmuiden and now we are almost at the corner of Cherbourgh. There is not enough wind to sail, so up to now we have motor sailed with mainsail and forestaysail set. The weather is beautiful, the air is a bit cold, but the sun has been shining all day! The colour of the water has changed from grey/green/brown, to an almost tropical bleu/green. Jan has seen 1 dolphin and a small bird (tjiftjaf?) has sailed with us for some hours. Other then that, there is not a lot of news on the Tecla. I will let you know as soon as we get wind or something exciting happens..

We zijn nu zo'n 43 uur onderweg en bijna bij de punt van Cherbourgh, maar helaas geen wind. Tot nu toe hebben we alles gemotor-zeilt. Grootzeil en fok zijn gehesen maar doen vrij weinig. Echter, de zon schijnt!! De lucht is nog koud en ruikt een beetje naar vis, maar het water is is van kleur veranderd van grijs/bruin/groen, naar een bijna tropisch groen/blauw. Jan heeft in de verte 1 dolfijn gezien en er was een klein vogeltje (tjiftjaf) die een tijdje met ons mee heeft gevaren, maar verder weinig nieuws te melden vanaf de Tecla. Als er wind komt of er gebeurd iets spannends, dan laat ik het weten!

I am sorry for not posting any messages during the race.. No internet in Ramsgate Harbour...

A short summery:
Monday was the day of departure, but in Hoek van Holland they had 100 meters visibility so we decided to wait one day and see how the weather would be on tuesday. So the next day we set of, not for Oostende but for England. With a north easterly wind we sailed to England, not a preverable wind for the Tecla, but we had a nice time.
Party in Ramsgate and on Thursday we set sail for IJmuiden again. Unfortunately there was no wind for the first 18 hours so we motor sailed to a bouy and started the race there.

The next evening (fryday) we were in Ijmuiden for the next party. On Saturday we had a inshore race around 3 points and the Tecla finished 4th!

Sad to say that over all we finished 14th... better luck in the next race!

I will try to post once more before we set sail for Vigo. Anybody who has time is still verry welcome on board the next two weeks!!!

Finaly the REES is here. For the 20th time this year the Tecla will sail the Race off the Classics.

Today we set sail for oostende!! In a few minutes Gijs and I (jet) will go to the schippers meeting to hear what they have to say! But we expect little wind for the next few days...! We will try to get some messages out on this place, but forgive me if we don't post every day..

The Tecla undersail again

In the middle of March there where a few beautiful days, the days that the Tecla was in a dry dock! We went to Den Oever on wednesday evening, went in the dock on Thursday and where back in the water on Monday!!

And this week the tecla set sail for the very first time this year!! With a group that has sailed with us last year, this year luckaly without snow!!

And in two weeks we are setting sail to Vigo! We are still looking for people top join us on this delivery. If you have some sailing experience and want to join us, please contact us and we can discus a lower price (in the order of, something for the food and your own transfer...) So let us know!!
